Our speakers
Praveen is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He is manager of the Japanese Smaller Companies Fund and the manager of related Japan Small Cap Strategy segregated accounts, the Shin Nippon Investment Trust, and deputy manager of the Baillie Gifford Japan Trust. He is also a founder and member of the International Smaller Companies Portfolio Construction Group. He previously worked for FKI Logistex before joining Baillie Gifford in 2008. Praveen graduated BEng in Computer Science from Bangalore University in 2001, and completed an MBA from the University of Cambridge in 2008.
Matthew is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2003 and became a partner in 2018. He is manager of the Japanese Fund (and related All Cap Strategy segregated accounts), manager of the Baillie Gifford Japan Trust and co-manager of the Japanese Income Growth Fund. Matthew graduated BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Bristol.
David joined Baillie Gifford in 2022 with responsibility for intermediary client relationships (specifically UK Advisers) in the UK. He spent 12 years working on the ‘buy side’, joining Williams De Broe in 2010, which became Investec in 2012. David began his career as a portfolio manager, then as a discretionary fund manager for the next 8 years (4 of which were spent in the Channel Islands). David graduated from the University of Aberdeen, before completing a postgraduate degree at Edinburgh Napier University. He is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.
Cherry has over 20 years’ experience working for a range of national, consumer and trade titles including The Times, the Financial Times, Telegraph, Independent, Interactive Investor, Forbes and the Investors Chronicle. She has co-authored a book on investing in emerging markets and is six-time winner of the Investment Management Association’s freelance journalist of the year award and eight-time winner of the AIC Freelance journalist of the year award. She began her career as a tax accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, before moving to investment bank J.P. Morgan.
