Matthew is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2003 and became a partner in 2018. He is manager of the Japanese Fund (and related All Cap Strategy segregated accounts), manager of the Baillie Gifford Japan Trust and co-manager of the Japanese Income Growth Fund. Matthew graduated BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Bristol.
Ben is an investment manager in the Emerging Markets Equity Team. He has managed the Pacific Fund since 2021 and became deputy manager of the Pacific Horizon Investment Trust in 2023. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2017 and has also spent time in our UK, Global Discovery and Private Companies teams. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for RBS. Ben is a chartered accountant and a CFA Charterholder. He graduated BSc in Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh in 2012.
Qian Zhang joined Baillie Gifford in 2021 as an investment specialist and client service director in the Emerging Markets Client Team. Previously, Qian worked as a senior client portfolio manager covering emerging markets strategies at Pictet Asset Management and JPMorgan Asset Management. She began her career at Merrill Lynch in 2008. Qian graduated MSc in Mathematical Risk Management from Georgia State University and BSc in Economics and Statistics from Peking University. Qian is a native mandarin speaker and a CFA Charterholder.
